Replying to Dan Albas (Conservative)
“Mr. Speaker, in the member’s last answer, she talked about the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and how she believes in it. The last I checked, the Liberals like to say all the time that they are the party of the charter. Given that the section 107 provision in the Canada Labour Code raises questions around the right to strike, does the member support the Minister of Justice tabling a charter statement so that we can see whether or not the justice department believes the bill has captured and balanced those rights correctly?”

Mr. Speaker, Claims · 72 wordsabsolutely. I would just say this government totally lacks transparency about everything. I certainly support that. Once again, the Liberals are trying to fast-track legislation. Actually, the NDP is going further than that. I put forward a private member’s bill to totally repeal section 107 of the Canada Labour Code because of the Liberal government’s abuse of section 107, including the Air Canada workers’, port workers’ and CN workers’ right to strike.1234 The ask · 10 wordsI hope the Conservatives will support my private member’s bill.
