“Madam Speaker, my colleague is a new member of the Standing Committee on National Defence, and we thank him for his work on that committee. I listened carefully to his speech, and I think he should offer his talents to screenwriter Fabienne Larouche to write fictional scripts for phone calls. I think that is very interesting. On a more serious note, my colleague talked about creative accounting. We had the opportunity to welcome members of the Coast Guard and armed forces to the Standing Committee on National Defence. They told us how much they appreciated the new investments in defence and the pay raises. First, I would like to know if my colleague agrees with the pay raises. Second, I would like to know if he agrees that it would be beneficial to integrate the Coast Guard into the Department of National Defence itself. I think it is important to mention that this is not creative accounting. It is NATO that determines who reaches the 2% target and who does not, and Canada has clearly reached 2%.”
