“Mr. Speaker, I would like to congratulate my colleague on his committee appointment. He told us that he will leave no stone unturned in determining which companies are passing these increases on to consumers and which are not. This means he acknowledges that when the excise tax is suspended, some businesses simply pocket the savings. He acknowledges that. I know that he was not a parliamentarian at the time, but I would remind him of the following: From the very outset of the war in Ukraine, the Bloc Québécois proposed significant tax credits for transportation companies, taxis and farms to ensure that these businesses would not have to bear the additional fuel costs and, more importantly, to prevent those higher costs from being passed along the entire supply chain and ultimately to consumers, as the Bank of Canada warned could happen. I would like to know why he and his colleague who spoke before him keep saying that the Bloc Québécois never puts any solutions forward. Is it possible that when we proposed this in 2021, 2022 and 2023, they were simply not around?”
