Replying to Maxime Blanchette-Joncas (Bloc Québécois)
“Mr. Speaker, the issue of jurisdiction absolutely must be addressed in the bill. Matters relating to social protection and the protection of youth fall under Quebec and provincial jurisdiction. I would like to ask my colleague whether she agrees that the federal government should work in collaboration with Quebec and the provinces. Once the bill is passed, they are the ones who will be responsible for intervening directly in an area that does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Government of Canada.”

Mr. Speaker, Positioning · 31 wordsI think everyone in the House knows that this could be one of the most important bills during our mandate that could affect the most people, in particular children and families.PositioningPartly on pointUnearned certainty Reasoning · 78 wordsYes, we need to get input from all provinces, including Quebec. We need to get input from parents. We need to get input from children. We need to look at what other countries have done, because we are not the first to approach this situation.1 We need to make sure we learn from past mistakes, from countries like Australia, to learn from them and, again, make sure this legislation is done right for the sake of our children.2Partly on point
