Replying to Kevin Lamoureux (Liberal)
“Mr. Speaker, I do appreciate the response I got from the member, but I really want to talk about the principle of having the commission, because the commission, from my perspective, is what gives it real teeth. We are talking about three to five members who would sit on a commission and ultimately be responsible for administering regulations. They would have the power, for example, to give fines. They would have the power to hold some of these Internet service providers responsible through regulation. They would have the authority necessary to protect the interests of our children and protect them from harmful content. Is that something she supports in principle?”

Mr. Speaker, Reasoning · 67 wordswe need to have commissioners. We need to have oversight, but we cannot take oversight away from parents. We need to make sure parents keep their oversight over their own children. If there is one commissioner who is making the decision, it can be problematic, so we need to make sure there is a lot of oversight, not only from the House, but also from parents themselves.
