“Mr. Speaker, as I was saying earlier, knowing what goes on is important to parents. A lot has changed over the past 30 years. I see it myself as a parent, as I said earlier. My 31-year-old son has three children. What he experiences is entirely different. I feel that parents need help and support. In her speech, my colleague said that we are not sure whether some platforms will be included or excluded. I would also like to point out that other platforms could be created after the bill passes. We therefore have to make sure to retain some flexibility. Does my colleague agree that bills like this one should retain some flexibility? Platforms evolve quickly, and new ones are always being created. We therefore have to act quickly and avoid amending bills all the time. The government also needs the flexibility to support parents as they do their job.”

Mr. Speaker, Claims · 86 wordsparents cannot take on some of the largest technology companies in the world by themselves.Parents can set boundaries, talk with their children and monitor device use, 1but they cannot control recommendation algorithms, platform design or how harmful content is promoted.Platforms must be accountable for the risks they create, 2and government has an important role to play.My concern is simply ensuring that Bill C-34 gives parents meaningful support and meaningful tools, rather than creating systems that are more effective on paper than in practice.Partly on point
