“Mr. Speaker, my colleague gave an excellent speech. He touched on a number of the key points in this bill. The reason we are still here tonight at this late hour is that we care deeply about protecting our children online. I would like to know his opinion of the bill’s architecture. Rather than imposing an outright ban, the bill allows platforms to be exempted if they can demonstrate that they have a rigorous safety plan, which would be assessed by an independent commission. That safety plan must show how children will be prevented from being exposed to harmful content. I would like to hear my colleague’s thoughts on that approach. In my opinion, it was the right approach to take.”
