Replying to Guillaume Deschênes-Thériault (Liberal)
“Mr. Speaker, in her speech, my colleague said that she hoped her colleagues were listening attentively. We certainly were, because right after, she talked about how it is important to protect the younger generation. In that spirit, under the framework of the bill, instead of an outright ban on social media, it would allow certain platforms to be exempt from the age verification obligations if they can show that they have a robust safety plan in place. I want to know what my colleague thinks of this approach. Rather than being subject an outright ban, platforms would be given an opportunity to implement preventative measures. What does she think about that?”
