“Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague and neighbour from Chaleur Bay for his substantive contribution to this debate. My question for him is quite specific. In Quebec, the issue of young people’s screen time has been studied extensively. A commission was set up. It held 30 meetings and spent 32 hours studying the matter, with 7,000 people responding to questionnaires and 2,500 Quebeckers providing feedback. One of the key outcomes of that work was recommendation 42, which states that social media accounts should be banned for youth under the age of 14. In Bill C-34, the ban is for youth 16 and under. Why did the Liberals not bother to read the work that had already been done in Quebec and include those findings in their bill?”
