“Mr. Speaker, my colleague’s speech was so long that we thought she was filibustering. We are accustomed to it. I serve with her on the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and I recognize her patience. I was pleased to hear from her today. One of the things our regions have in common is the academic work done there. The University of Guelph is renowned for its work on soil. The same is true of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue and the Institut de recherche en agriculture et agroalimentaire. In that context, yes, there are collaborations. For anyone really interested in soil health, would it not have been more appropriate for her to speak out, as my colleague suggested, against the cuts to science and research, and to propose investments in our university research chairs so that more data could be gathered, rather than encroaching on provincial jurisdictions?”
