“The government makes big promises with this space bill and other laws, but leaves out the details. They ask Canadians to just trust them. I am worried they are taking too much power for themselves and will not use it well.”

Mr. Speaker, do not get me wrong. I really respect the fact that the government and my colleagues across the way are struggling to meet the world where it is and to find a good response for Canada in that context. However, there is a disturbing trend, and it does not just come through Bill C-28. It has also shown up in other legislation, like in the acts enabling the Major Projects Office or Build Canada Homes, where there is an ambitious, big, splashy announcement made and promises made that are pie in the sky, sky-high and into orbit, but when we look at the details, the message is, “Just trust us. We have your back.” In a circumstance where the government is undeniably popular right now, that is one thing, but I hope Canadians do not end up with buyer’s remorse down the road when they find out that power has been consolidated in a group of people who do not know how to wield it wisely.
