Discussion · Government Orders
Mario Beaulieu Bloc Québécois
“Federal health care funding is not increasing fast enough to cover rising costs, especially as the population gets older. That funding increase could drop even lower in a few years, while health systems are already struggling. I want to know what my colleague thinks about this.”
“Mr. Speaker, currently, the government has set the increase in health transfers at 5%, which is clearly insufficient because system costs are rising, due to population aging, at a rate closer to 6%. The government has not locked in the increase in health transfers, which means that, by 2027-28, it could drop to 2% or 3%, even though the health care systems in Quebec and other provinces are already struggling. I would like to hear my colleague’s thoughts on that.”
