“I think the government rejected changes to this bill just to avoid upsetting military leaders. These changes included creating an independent office to handle sexual misconduct and letting military judges leave the armed forces. I want to know what my colleague thinks about this.”

Mr. Speaker, I was listening to our colleague earlier, and I wonder if the government’s rejection of the amendments is not, in part, an attempt to avoid upsetting the military hierarchy too much. Among the amendments, there was one that sought to create an inspector general’s office dedicated to addressing sexual misconduct within the military. There was also an amendment calling for veterans to be eligible to be appointed as judges and for military judges to be able to leave the armed forces. What are my colleague’s thoughts on that?
