“Politics should be safe and respectful for everyone, without hate or personal attacks. On this day for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, we must focus on safety and respect. The women's caucus supports this bill to protect victims, and we want more women to take part in our democracy.”

Mr. Speaker, getting into politics means choosing to serve and advance our democracy. Personal attacks, intimidation and hatred have no place in our institutions or our society. It is up to every one of us to foster an environment in which all people can contribute to public discourse with dignity and kindness. As we mark the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, we must continue to promote a society based on listening, respect and safety for all. As chair of the women’s caucus, I also want to emphasize women’s significant contribution to public and political life in our country and our support for Bill C‑16. A strong democracy is one in which everyone is encouraged to participate and get involved.
