“The Conservatives say protecting our culture hurts trade. That means they are giving up on our language and culture, and just accepting American culture instead.”
“Mr. Speaker, by claiming that standing up for culture is a trade irritant, as the Conservatives do in point (iv) of their motion, they are also giving up on linguistic and cultural diversity and, above all, accepting English American culture as the standard. If the Conservatives do not have that cultural sensitivity, is it because they have already embraced that standard? Is it because, for them, the culture we are talking about is the U.S. culture?”
