“The CRTC made this choice on its own, and other major countries do the same thing. The Conservatives want to scrap it just because the United States does not like it. Canada is an independent country, and we do not have to do everything the United States says. We are still talking with them, and we will get a good deal for Canadians.”

Mr. Speaker, it is the independent, arm’s-length CRTC that has made the decision. I think it is important for us to recognize that Canada is not alone. There are other G7 countries that have what the Conservatives are saying we should not have as a nation. They believe that, because the United States has said we should not have one, we should abolish it. It is as simple as that. I wonder if the Conservatives believe that Canada owes it to its citizens to stand independently of the United States. We do not have to listen to everything it says. Negotiations are going on and they will continue. We will get the best deal for Canadians on that front.
