Discussion · Government Orders

“We need to actually debate and study bills before we pass them. The government is rushing this bill through, and that is dangerous. We are here to represent the people who voted for us, and all views need to be heard.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, it is deeply offensive. The point of Parliament is to actually have respectful debate and discussion and make sure bills are adequately studied before they are passed. The track record of programming motions on Bill C-5 and this one on Bill C-30 sets extremely dangerous precedence. Parliament is not a mere waste of time for a CEO in a hurry. Parliament is essential to Westminster parliamentary democracy, and we are here to represent our constituents. Regardless of party, views need to be heard. Again, if we all could work together better, it would be by not allowing prepared written speeches.
