“The government is rushing this hate crimes bill through and cutting off debate. The bill divides Canadians, and the minister even suggested religious texts could be seen as hateful. The government should drop this bill and bring back one that unites people.”
“Mr. Speaker, we know that the Minister of Heritage had suggested that passages of religious scripture could be viewed as hateful. We know that this government, which the member is a part of, has moved to limit debate once again, specifically on Bill C-9, since that is what we are debating, but it is happening on a lot of things. I am wondering why the member thinks that his government should continue to ram this bill through before the end of the session instead of killing the bill and coming back with something that is not so divisive and that actually can unite Canadians.”
