“I disagree with the Green Party leader. Parties do not work together like they used to. If the government cannot limit debate, the Conservatives could block every bill they dislike. We need rules that set debate times so the government can pass its laws.”

Madam Speaker, I completely disagree with the leader of the Green Party, because I do not think she is reflecting on the reality of change that we have seen over the last 15 years. If we follow the logic of the leader of the Green Party, it would be the Conservative Party of Canada that would determine what legislation passed, because she does not believe that time allocation should be used. The moment that the Conservative Party says they do not like legislation, the government would not be able to pass the legislation. There was a time when there was co-operation, many years ago, but we need programming, in the same way we program opposition days and private members’ bills, in order for the government of the day and future governments to be able to get their legislation across the goal line. I am wondering if the member could provide her thoughts on that change.
