“The member is not telling the truth. Private companies wanted to build pipelines to export our oil to Asia and Europe using their own money. Prime Minister Trudeau could have fixed the consultation issues and let them build. Instead, the Liberals chased private companies away and made taxpayers pay for projects.”

Mr. Speaker, the Liberal member is not telling the truth about either the last 11 years or the previous record. The fact is that private sector proponents made proposals for a dedicated Asian export pipeline off the west coast. Also, the private sector proponents made a proposal for a west-to-east pipeline to provide Canadian domestic energy security and exports to Europe. The court ruled that there had to be more indigenous consultation done on northern gateway. Prime Minister Trudeau had the option to redo that consultation, get it right, and Canada would long be shipping barrels of oil to Asia to diversify markets beyond the U.S., on the private sector’s dime, on their time, and that infrastructure would have been built years and years ago. Instead, the only thing the Liberals have a record of is chasing out private sector proponents and putting Crown corporations and taxpayers on the hook, and no shock—
