“Big oil companies are making record profits. I want the government to tax those extra profits, like Norway does, to help people and invest in clean energy.”
Official Hansard

Madam Speaker, again, right now, big oil in this country is posting record profits. It is looking to make over $50 billion in excess profit tax this year, but we never hear the Conservatives or the Liberals talk about that. In Norway, they have a sovereign wealth fund. I would not call it a tax. They took part of those finite resources and invested them. They have over $1.7 trillion U.S. right now, earning over $200 billion a year, that can help people in Norway alleviate pressures in situations like this. They can provide relief for their citizens. They can invest in clean energy. They can do their part. In this place, what is the threshold? How much money will it take for the Liberals to bring in an excess profit tax on these big oil and gas companies?
