“This bill shortens the time for environmental reviews down to one year, instead of the eight years it used to take. I have said for a long time that these reviews should take one to two years so projects can move forward. We will study the bill in committee.”
“Mr. Speaker, everything I have seen in Bill C-39 aims to significantly shorten the timelines for the environmental assessment and approval process. We are talking about time frames that could be as short as one year. At one point in time, it took eight years. The government is now proposing a time frame of one year. As early as 2007, I said on LCN that the goal should be to complete the process within one to two years. Ultimately, projects must be allowed to proceed. We will review this issue at committee and see what we can do about it.”
