“We are working with victims and their families to improve the parole system. All parties need to work together on this instead of playing politics, just like we did with our recent laws on victims' rights and bail.”
“Mr. Speaker, my thoughts are with Darren, his family and his community. I will just assure my colleague opposite that we are working with victims, survivor groups and those representing families in order to strengthen our parole process. This is an issue, as I have indicated in the past, that requires collaboration among all the parties. This is not to be politicized. It is important that we work together toward strengthening victims’ rights. That is exactly what we did with Bill C-16 that passed this spring. It is the same thing we did with Bill C-14 on sentencing and bail reform.”
