“I tried to join the committee studying this bill, but my request was rejected. I want other members to help push for changes to this bill at the committee stage. Specifically, I want to make sure the government cannot exempt certain laws.”
“Madam Speaker, I appreciated my hon. colleague’s speech very much, particularly the commitment to address this bill and to make amendments in committee. I do not know if the hon. member is aware, but I did contact all party whip offices, PROC and the Speaker’s office to ask to be added to the special legislative committee that will be studying the bill. That request has been rejected, but I would appreciate any support from any member in this place to assist in pressing for amendments when it does get to committee. I appreciate the hon. member’s concern for labour rights. Would he also agree to try to add to the list that is in former Bill C-5 acts that they are not allowed to exempt?”
