“We must watch this bill closely. Ministers would make major decisions in secret. I am worried these decisions could benefit the Prime Minister's personal investments.”
“Madam Speaker, I have heard the reference that this is a bulldozer rather than a building bill. It would certainly have an impact on environmental laws, labour laws and all of the things I said. The one thing we have to watch, and the one thing, as I said earlier, as chair of the ethics committee that I will be watching from an oversight and transparency standpoint, is the impact that these decisions, which would be made for the most part by ministers and in large part in secret, are going to have on the Prime Minister’s financial holdings. I am very concerned that public policy is aligning with not only Brookfield’s strategy but also the Prime Minister’s personal holdings, as it relates to the Brookfield Global Transition Fund I, and the impact that many of these projects, including carbon capture, ocean mapping, all of these things, will have on his personal holdings. It is incumbent upon not just me but all members of Parliament, in fact all Canadians, from a transparency standpoint, to watch very closely how the bill plays out.”
