“Many oil, gas, and natural gas projects in Canada are owned by foreign companies. The government is giving these foreign-owned projects big tax breaks and public money. I want to know if the member supports the government helping foreign companies own our energy projects.”

Mr. Speaker, I would like to know my colleague’s thoughts about the fact that oil, gas and LNG projects in this country are often majority foreign-owned. For example, LNG Canada phase 2 is 100% owned by foreign companies, including Shell from the U.K., Petronas from Malaysia and PetroChina from China, along with Mitsubishi and KOGAS. Another LNG project in Quebec is owned by Marinvest, a European company. The government created tax superdeductions for these projects in the last budget. They will probably also receive substantial government investment. Does my colleague support the government’s decision to encourage foreign ownership of projects here in Canada and in Quebec?
