“I want this bill to pass. It gives First Nations the power, jurisdiction, and funding to manage their own water and protect their environment. Many communities in places like Manitoba and northern Ontario badly need these resources.”
“Madam Speaker, we have to take into consideration that the work we do here is not only about water system infrastructure but also about giving communities the power, the resource and the jurisdiction over deciding how they are going to access that. It is not only about how they are doing the work to harmonize their relationship with their environment, protect necessary resources and practise their indigenous way of life to be able to provide a service in community, but also about ensuring that we give them the resources to be successful in that space. Manitoba has been one of the provinces where we have seen an immense need. It is the same thing in northern Ontario. We have many communities across the country that are waiting for the resource in this bill to action and service their members.”
