“High diesel prices are hurting farmers, which makes food cost more for everyone. The government should lower its fuel taxes to help farmers and make food cheaper.”
“Madam Speaker, as families prepare for Thanksgiving, farmers tell me that rising diesel prices are adding yet another cost they cannot afford. Brian, a farmer from Holland, told my office the price of diesel is becoming unsustainable. Many others agree. After years of skyrocketing fertilizer and equipment costs, higher fuel prices may be the final straw for many farm families. These costs are not isolated to farmers. Every family putting food on the table this Thanksgiving pays these costs in higher food prices. Farmers cannot control the weather or the price at the pump, but the government controls how much it taxes the production of these essentials. Conservatives put forward an emergency fuel relief plan to lower diesel costs and expand Canadian production, but the Liberals voted it down. West Manitoba farmers are working through difficult circumstances this fall to get the job done and deliver affordable food to tables. Why are the Liberals not prepared to do the same?”
