“I want to ask the member how First Nations leaders are responding to this water bill. The old bill was made together with First Nations. The government wrote this new one on its own, and it takes away basic First Nations rights.”
“Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague from Winnipeg Centre for her ongoing commitment to first nations’ rights and to ensuring that their voices are heard, respected and recognized. Of course, this is one of the problems we have with Bill C-37. I would like to hear her talk about mobilization and how first nations and their leaders are receiving this bill. I would remind members that the previous version of this bill was co-developed, whereas this one stems essentially from the wishes of the Minister of Indigenous Services and the Prime Minister, who wanted to intervene to remove some of first nations’ fundamental human rights.”
