“The government keeps making independent agencies that ministers claim they cannot control. How will this new defence corporation stay accountable to Parliament?”
“Madam Speaker, since the Trudeau government was elected in 2015, all sorts of independent agencies and organizations have been created to deal with all sorts of things. I often hear the Minister of Public Safety say that he cannot intervene politically because the Canada Border Services Agency is an independent agency and so is the RCMP. When it comes to the new entity provided for under Bill C-40, how can we be sure that accountability to parliamentarians and government accountability will be upheld and not delegated to another body that does not have the same accountability requirements?”
