Discussion · Government Orders

“This bill keeps the government accountable. It creates a new Crown corporation and makes an associate minister permanently responsible for it, so Parliament and the public have someone to answer to.”
“Mr. Speaker, within the legislation is the idea of having an associate minister become permanent. Through that associate minister, we would receive that accountability. Therefore, not only is there a Crown corporation that in a very tangible way ensures transparency and accountability, but we also have, through the legislation, a government that is saying that it is not going to surrender all aspects of accountability. By having an associate minister tied to it, that means that members of Parliament in the House, and through them the public as a whole, would still have a minister, a go-to political individual, who ultimately has to be accountable.”
