Discussion · Government Orders
Jeff Kibble Conservative
“I do not support this bill as it is written. Government companies can work well, but this bill lets one person make huge choices without reporting to Parliament. When Conservatives made quick deals for military gear, we had to write down our reasons. This bill does not hold anyone accountable.”
“Mr. Speaker, I indeed said that Crown corporations have proven successful in other countries, but these unaccountable regulations, which would allow one person to make these powerful decisions, are the problem. That is the failure. Conservatives have used single-source contracts to much success to arm our troops quickly when there was a need, but there were written reasons. The bill is focused around 13 expandable reasons that do not require accountability and do not require reporting back to the House. That is the problem, not the Crown corporation.”
