“The Bloc Québécois voted to pause the fuel tax before because it was necessary. Things around the world have not gotten better since then, and people in my riding say our measures help them. The Parti Québécois wants to end the federal fuel tax permanently. Does the Bloc agree with that?”
“Mr. Speaker, I always enjoy listening to my colleague, and I dream of one day being able to speak so eloquently. I think that if he goes back to teach economics, I will sign up. I want to go back to the fact that my colleague said that the Bloc Québécois initially voted for the measure because it was necessary. However, the situation around the world has not improved since then. I do not think we can say that things have stabilized very well. My constituents in the riding of Brome—Missisquoi have been telling me how much the measures the government is putting in place are helping them. We are not creating measures just for the sake of burning money. That is not the goal. The goal is to help our constituents. My question is this. The Parti Québécois, which came to power in Quebec City, called for a permanent suspension of the federal excise tax on gasoline. Does the Bloc Québécois share that position as well?”
