“Our government supports Prairie farmers, while the Conservatives ignored them in the last election. We opened a water agency in Winnipeg and lowered Chinese tariffs on canola. We are also helping farmers sell their food in Asia.”

Madam Speaker, the government established the water agency in the city of Winnipeg dealing with waste water management through the prairies and beyond. I would remind my friend from Saskatchewan that, if he looks at the Conservative policy book from the last federal election, he will find that there was zero attention from the Conservative Party given to the Prairies or our farmers on the Prairies, in particular in his home province of Saskatchewan. I have talked to some of those canola farmers in the provinces of Saskatchewan or Manitoba to hear what they had to say about having a Prime Minister who was able to move forward and take some steps with respect to reducing the tariffs on canola and making it more feasible to have trade opportunities going into China. The Conservatives mocked the government for doing so, which is somewhat shameful for it to have done. but that has not stopped the government, because we see the benefits of the agri-food markets. That is one of the reasons we are aggressively pursuing trade agreements beyond the Canada-U.S. border, for example, using the agri-food office in Manila for India and Asia as a whole to export agri-food products to Asia. There have been many initiatives brought forward by the government in support of our farmers, and we will continue to work with farmers to do even more.
