“The answer is no. Conservatives have changed their minds on the carbon tax many times under different leaders. We changed our minds once to help make life more affordable, and our decision to get rid of the carbon tax is permanent.”
“Madam Speaker, no, but this is interesting. There are a dozen-plus career politicians on the Conservative benches. We will find that, I believe, Stephen Harper was in favour of a carbon tax in a different form. Then they had a change in leadership, and the Conservatives were against it. Then Erin O’Toole, a new Conservative leader, came by and said, “I think it’s a good thing”, but the current leader said, “No, we want to get rid of it.” Under the leadership of our Prime Minister on the issue of affordability, we made the decision that it was time to permanently get rid of the carbon tax. Yes, there was a change. We have not changed as much as the Conservative Party has, but I can assure the member that it is permanent.”
