“I support this temporary tax cut on fuel, but it does not go far enough. The government should also get rid of the carbon tax to lower diesel prices. Canadians pay 25 cents more per litre for diesel than Americans do. Cheaper diesel means cheaper food and goods for everyone.”
“Madam Speaker, it is common sense. Canadians are going through tough times. Even with this temporary relief, the government would not be giving them what Conservatives have asked for. For the long term, if the government gets rid of the carbon tax, then the diesel price could be pretty low. We are paying 25¢ per litre more than U.S. consumers are paying across the border for diesel. Everything depends on the price of diesel, because everything from groceries to construction goods has to be trucked or otherwise transported. If we can lower the cost of diesel, we can bring costs down.”
