“We need many programs to help Canadians with the cost of living, like child care, school meals, and lower taxes. This fuel bill is only one part of that. I want the member to explain why his party supports this bill, but opposes our other programs to lower costs.”

Mr. Speaker, my colleague talked about the importance of concrete measures to help with the cost of living. I completely agree, and I am very pleased that the official opposition is working with us, but this is just one among many measures. To help Canadians, we need a series of affordability measures. The Canada child benefit, affordable child care spaces, the school breakfast program and the tax cut for the middle tax come to mind. It is a combination of measures that sometimes put money directly back in the pockets of Canadians, or that save the public money indirectly. Tonight’s example is just one of many concrete measures. I would therefore like to know why my colleague supports this measure this evening, but does not support all the other affordability measures that we are putting in place. I sense a contradiction there. He asks us to implement concrete measures, but always opposes them.
