“This bill makes bail and sentences tougher for repeat and violent offenders. We are also hiring 1,000 new RCMP officers and spending $1.3 billion to protect our borders and stop illegal drugs. We are taking real action to make communities safer.”

Mr. Speaker, the Bail and Sentencing Reform Act directly targets repeat and violent offenders with stricter bail and sentencing changes. At the same time, and I want to reiterate this, the government is hiring 1,000 new RCMP officers and investing $1.3 billion to secure our borders and to stop illegal drugs before they reach our streets. That is real action, and that is a government that is choosing results, with stronger laws, stronger enforcement and safer communities.
