“Canadians will have to pay for this plan. My party opposes new taxes and extra costs. Over one million people in Quebec voted for us because of this.”
Official Hansard

Madam Speaker, the problem with the proposal is that Canadians are the ones who will end up footing the bill. That is why we have always taken a completely different approach, one that I acknowledge is open to review. I readily acknowledge that we favour policies that avoid imposing additional taxes or similar charges. That is our approach. I believe that it is the best one, but of course that is a matter for debate. We were all re‑elected in 2025 on that basis, having received one million votes from Quebeckers. Let us never forget that our Conservative caucus had nine members here in Ottawa in 2025 and eleven afterward. We increased our share of the vote to 21%. More than one million Quebeckers voted for us, so yes, I think so. As I said earlier, we do not speak for all Quebeckers, but many Quebeckers think as we do.
