Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to Irene Mathyssen, who served the people of London—Fanshawe in the House for 13 years. Irene dedicated much of her life to our community as a teacher, a provincial representative and a member of Parliament. In the House, she spoke with conviction and brought determination to her work. She was an advocate for human rights and a strong voice for veterans, devoting considerable time and effort to both. Her career in public service spanned decades, so I want to take this moment in the chamber to remember her contribution, acknowledge the commitment that sustained those years of public service, and express our immense gratitude. To her husband Keith; her daughter Lindsay, who also served in the House; and to her family, friends and former colleagues, I offer my sincere condolences. On behalf of the people of London—Fanshawe, we honour Irene’s memory and join all the people mourning the loss of someone who gave so much of her life to our community.
