“The government promised to stand up to the United States. Instead, it got rid of the digital services tax to help trade talks. It has been 16 months since then, and there are zero results. Does my colleague agree?”
“Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for her remarks, which were very clearly stated, naturally. That is the beauty of parliamentary debate. Every party and every opinion can be heard. That said, one thing is important: When someone commits to doing something and the results are not there, they need to acknowledge it. We should remember that this government was elected on the promise to go to the White House with its elbows up. Ultimately, there were no elbows up at all; what we got were thumbs up. As a result, the government decided to abolish the digital services tax, thinking that this would have a positive impact on negotiations. It has already been 16 months since then. Sixteen months later, there are zero results. What are my colleague’s thoughts on this reality?”
