“The government got rid of the digital services tax just to please Donald Trump and get a deal. It has been 16 months, and we have seen no results. What does the member think about this?”
“Mr. Speaker, I want to commend my colleague for her speech, which was very moving because she shared her story and her family’s story. I thank her family for choosing Canada. Now, we are here to discuss a fiscal reality, a political reality, and also a reality that affects the cultural community that she holds so dear. Let us not forget that the political party she represents has gone back and forth a few times. At first, it was against the tax, and then it was for it. Then it used it to placate Donald Trump and convince him to strike a good deal with Canada. The reality is that when this government decided to abolish the digital services tax, it was really just to please Donald Trump. Now, 16 months later, the results are non-existent. What are my colleague’s thoughts on that?”
