“The Conservatives asked for no culture funding and wanted to cut CBC and Radio-Canada. The Bloc Québécois put forward this motion, but they did not ask for culture funding in the last budget either.”
“Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question, which will give me the opportunity to clarify what has happened in recent months and over the past year. As members know, the Conservative Party did not make any culture-related requests. The Conservatives even wanted to take a step backward and cut funding for CBC/Radio‑Canada. They never mentioned providing more funding for French content or for culture. It is also important to note that the motion was moved by the Bloc Québécois, who did not make any culture-related requests in the last budget. I find it a bit rich that we have this motion before us today to debate when the Bloc did not make any specific culture-related requests at budget time.”
