“Today is World Polio Day. Global polio cases have dropped over 99.9 percent, and Canada has helped lead this effort. But polio is still not gone in countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan. We must keep working to end this disease completely.”
“Madam Speaker, on October 24, we mark World Polio Day to recognize the remarkable progress made against a disease that once threatened children around the world. Thanks to decades of hard work, polio cases have dropped more than 99.9%. Canada has been a proud leader in this effort, working alongside international organizations and civil society partners to expand immunization and strengthen public health systems. However, the fight is not over. Polio remains endemic in countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan. As we mark World Polio Day, let us recommit to finishing the job and achieving a polio-free world for future generations.”
