“I agree that we need standard, up-to-date measurements. But other government bills have wasted money. How does this bill protect Canadians from higher costs and wasted money?”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, we have a statute mile, a geographical mile, the U.S. survey mile, an admiralty mile, a nautical mile, a data mile, and tactical mile. The list goes on. As a former navigator, I understand the importance of efficiency, standardizing and updating measurements. I thank the member opposite for her impassioned speech. I have weighed her comments, pardon the pun, and measured them closely. My question though is, after seeing so many scandals, wasted money and inefficiencies with other Liberal bills, what protections are in this bill to ensure that Canadians do not see increased prices or increased costs and to prevent money being wasted?
