“This bill about weights and measures is important for everyday life, from buying gas to shipping goods. The Senate worked hard on it. We only have about 34 sitting days left this fall, so we need to send it to committee and keep it moving toward becoming law. What does the member think about moving this bill forward?”

Madam Speaker, I truly appreciate many of the comments the member has put on the record, recognizing just how important weights and measurements are in everyday society, through legislation and regulation. Different levels of government, either directly or indirectly, get engaged, from consumers purchasing gas to truckers crossing the border with different types of product. It is actually a very important area for dialogue and discussion. I am grateful that the Senate has done a great deal of homework to try to make it all-inclusive. The House will sit for about 34 days this fall, and we have a heavy legislative agenda. This is an important piece of legislation. Debate is, I think, now on day two. Part of having the debate is also ensuring that a healthy discussion takes place at committee. I am wondering if the member could provide his thoughts in regard to trying to advance the legislation so it does get royal assent eventually.
