“We should honour our soldiers and their sacrifices. History shows that independent corporations can be very open, accountable, and efficient. I want the member to agree that creating this corporation is the best way to get our military the equipment it needs.”

Madam Speaker, first, I would recognize that members of Parliament are wearing a poppy as a form of respect and tribute to members of our forces who have served in the past and are serving in present, and the sacrifices that have been made. I do believe, as the member referenced, that Wainwright will in fact be in the minds and hearts of many, along with our prayers for the victims. My question is with regard to the corporation that would be established. An arm’s-length corporation, I would ultimately argue, has been demonstrated in the past through many different administrations of corporations, whether at the provincial level or federal level, to be exceptionally effective in transparency, accountability and efficiencies. I am wondering if the member would recognize that corporations can, if done properly through legislation, be the best way to ensure that our men and women are best served with the necessary equipment into the future.
