“Canada does not support veterans when it hands out military contracts. The United States gives a share of defence contracts to businesses owned by veterans. I want to know why the government is not recognizing veterans here.”
“Madam Speaker, I would like to welcome my colleague to the veterans affairs committee. One of the things we hear in the veterans affairs committee is that there is a continual lack of recognition for veterans when military contracts go out. If we look south of the border, the U.S. has a procurement strategy of including 3% of small businesses owned by veterans, and in fact, that has actually been exceeded to 5%. We hear all these numbers being thrown around by the Liberals, but we are not hearing anything about veterans. We have seen sole-sourcing. Could the member expand a little on her thoughts about why veterans are not being recognized?”
