“Buying military equipment is too complicated because too many departments are involved. We need to make the process simpler. Canada needed new submarines for decades, and the Defence Investment Agency helped us buy them quickly.”

Madam Speaker, we need to look at the complexity of the entire system we have right now. We are working with three or four different departments. We need to find a way to streamline the system. The purchasing of submarines is the largest military procurement project in Canadian history, and it was done fairly quickly. Although we do not have the full picture yet, this purchase will allow Canada to acquire the best underwater capability possible. It is something we need. Canada has been needing new submarines for 25 years, even 40 years. Thanks to the Defence Investment Agency, we finally have a system that makes their procurement possible.
