“The government is using misleading math to meet its military spending goal. It counts things like veterans' pensions, transport planes, and the coast guard as military spending when they are not. Meanwhile, our armed forces face more budget cuts. This proves the Liberals are not serious about defence.”
“Mr. Speaker, after all is said and done, more is always said than done with the Liberal government. This is not the first time that the government has used creative accounting. We have seen this time and time again with the government including items that have not been considered for defence spending, including veterans’ pensions and Transport Canada airplanes, as well as the entire Canadian Coast Guard budget, in order to get to our 2% NATO commitment. If we put that together with recent reports that the Canadian Armed Forces are facing another round of internal belt tightening, the Liberals are proving once again that they are not serious about defence.”
